Polyamide (PA) Injection Molding
Injection molded products are plastic products that everyone uses in their daily life. Nowadays, packaging, consumer goods and virtually every other type of product you can think of contain plastic. These products can be produced in various ways, but the most common production method is molding the material into a product according to your wishes. This is done by means of an injection molding machine. In injection molding, granulate is heated and injected under high pressure into an injection mold, so that it takes the shape of the desired product. After a predetermined cooling period, the mold opens and the plastic product can be removed automatically or manually.

There are thousands of different plastic materials on the market, so making this choice can be tricky at times. Each type of plastic has its own possibilities and limitations. The choice of a particular raw material largely depends on the technical and visual requirements of a product. Advantages of polyamide (PA)
Polyamide, also called nylon, is available in various grades (PA6, PA6.6, PA 11, PA12), each with its own advantages. In general, nylon parts have high mechanical strength, high rigidity and high impact resistance. For applications where a higher stiffness is required, a glass fiber reinforced nylon (eg PA 30GF) can be used. Nylon is very resistant to bases and weak acids, oil and solvents. Polyamide is also much more wear-resistant than polyoxymethylene (POM).

Polyamide has excellent impact strength and wear resistance and a relatively low coefficient of friction. All this makes polyamide very suitable for technical applications in gears, bearings, screws, pump parts, parts under the hood and general industrial applications.
Polyamide (PA) Considerations
Are you considering choosing polyamide? Then it is important to take the following factors into account:
- Nylon is a hygroscopic material, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air or directly from water. This moisture absorption influences the mechanical properties and dimensions of the injection molded product. At a lower humidity (for example in winter) it loses moisture and therefore becomes more brittle;
- Polyamide is therefore not suitable for electrical applications due to its high moisture absorption. POM is more suitable for this.
- Nylon is not suitable for use with strong acids.

The start of the polyamide injection molding process at Fleur Plastics lies with the creation of a 3D product drawing. Here your injection molded end product is visualized for you. After the 3D drawing is made, the injection mold is developed. This mold is tailor-made specifically for your part or your injection molded product. We can also make use of pre-existing molds. Subsequently, the PA granules are melted, so that the liquid mass can be injected into the injection mold under great pressure. The liquid mass is then solidified by means of cooling. After a predetermined cooling period, the mold opens and the plastic product is removed and ready for further processing or transport.
