Injection molding

Injection molding for a product molded to your liking.

What is injection molding?

Injection molding is one of the most common production methods for making a plastic product. These products are all around us and can hardly be ignored in our daily lives. With plastic injection molding, a large number of identical items can be made within a short period of time - from high-precision parts for mechanical engineering to consumer items.

Plastic injection molding

During injection molding, thermoplastic materials are used. These are plastics that soften when heated and are reusable when ground up. Depending on product requirements, these are available in a wide variety of types. During the injection molding process, a measured amount of plastic is heated. This mass is then injected under high pressure into a mold cavity. This mold cavity has the shape of the desired product. The next step in making injection molded products is to cool the product. After the material has cooled, the mold opens and the product is ejected from the mold.

Injection molding process

After a suitable product design has been created, a plastic material can be chosen according to the desired product functionality. Next, an injection mold can be made and only then can plastic injection molding be started.

At our production site in the Netherlands, we develop a separate injection molding process for each mold and each product. By then statistically monitoring and recording the process parameters over longer periods of time during production, quality can then be maintained within the process. The static data is then linked to product and quality requirements to be measured, allowing a framework to be applied to the process. From each production run, we record the measured data daily and analyze this data to process further optimizations. This makes the product quality more predictable and gives more certainty in dimensional and visual criteria.
