Advantages of polyoxymethylene (POM)
POM, also called acetal, is characterized by high toughness, stiffness and strength. POM has good self-lubrication and therefore a very low friction coefficient, making it extremely suitable for gears or moving parts. It is resistant to fuels and organic solvents. POM does not absorb moisture, so it also remains dimensionally stable. The mechanical properties of POM remain virtually unaffected at temperatures between -40°C and +80°C. POM is also excellent for mechanical finishing operations such as threading.

Because polyoxymethylene is very hard, stiff and wear-resistant, as well as having favorable elastic properties and a low coefficient of friction, the material is extremely suitable for applications in gears, pump impellers, conveyor belts, car switches and electrical switch components.

- Polyoxymethylene has a long post-shrinkage, which means that a product design with uniform wall thickness must be realized as much as possible;
- Due to the low coefficient of friction, POM is difficult to paint and coat;
- Friction of POM on POM can cause a squeaking sound.
